We handle a wide range of criminal matters. Tell us what you're facing.
Arrested or under investigation?
What you say and do in the first hours after police contact can shape your entire case. Know your rights and protect them.
You have the right to remain silent. Be polite, but don't discuss the allegations with police, friends, or on social media.
Under section 10(b) of the Charter, you have the right to retain and instruct counsel without delay when you are arrested or detained. Ask for one clearly.
You can decline to consent to a search. Never physically resist; your lawyer can challenge an unlawful search later. Refusing a lawful breath demand is a separate offence.
Early advice can shape your bail hearing, protect your rights, and preserve options that may not be available later.
General information only, not legal advice. Every situation is different.
“Any person charged with an offence has the right… to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law.”
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, s. 11(d)
It's our job to hold the Crown to its burden and make sure that right means something in your case.
How we defend you
Criminal cases are won through preparation. Here's how we approach every file, whatever the charge.
We listen, explain the charges and the court process in plain language, and answer your questions.
We obtain and scrutinize the Crown's disclosure: police notes, video, statements, and expert reports.
We identify defences and Charter breaches, and build a plan around your goals and priorities.
We negotiate from a position of strength and are ready to take your case to trial when that's the right path.

Everyone deserves a strong defence and to be treated with dignity and respect.
Generally, no. You have the right to remain silent, and you have the right to speak with a lawyer without delay if you are arrested or detained. Politely decline to discuss the allegations until you've received legal advice. (Some obligations, such as complying with a lawful breath demand, still apply.)
Tell us what's happening. We'll review your situation and explain your options.
